3:11 pm - The Singing Detective Google Theme

vkxonline
Did two project recently involving the Singing Detective. The first is this startpage for AwesomeStart.com:

Click Me!

You can customize all the links and make it your homepage. If you get lost (or just don't get it) there's also an FAQ.

That was in colaboration for a segment we did on our first Double Feature podcast, which was Twelve Monkeys and The Singing Detective. It was our first show, so the audio's a little rough. Sorry!

4:36 pm - Hello, fellow Potter fans...
bowmann I currently have copies of 30 of his 40 television dramas, among numerous other works.

Is anyone interested in comparing lists, trading material or offering any helpful information?

1:13 pm - Lipstick On Your Collar & Blackeyes On DVD

nancy_drew
Hi, I'm looking to make a little cash to pay some outstanding bills. I have Blackeyes and Lipstick on Your Collar, straight from Ebay -- Lipstick On Your Collar is still in its wrapper and Blackeyes has only been watched once. I was wondering if anyone is interested in buying them. They are on DVD-R, which should play on most DVD players. I live in the US but am willing to ship anywhere.

Comment here or email nogoodseashanty@gmail.com. Thanks!

1:43 am - Dennis Potter Box Set

My eyes must be playing tricks on me - a big Dennis Potter DVD Box Set!

I'm sad that this set is a) quite expensive and b) undoubtedly doomed to never be released in Region 1... but STILL! It makes me happy that these are being released on DVD at all.
I wonder why they're not releasing Lipstick On Your Collar... hmmmm. I'd love to have a good copy of that one.

3:08 am - Hi.

heterodog
Hello, I've been trying to find 'Brimstone and Treacle' for a friend who's been trying to get it for a while now. We live in Mexico, so getting the DVD is close to impossible.

So, I was wondering if anyone knew where to find it, or get clips, or purchase it at a reasonable price... yeah, I'm getting kind of desperate. I would really appreciate any help.

Weather crappy?
Can't find a sitter?
Car won't start and can't afford the bus?
But you REALLY want to go vote?
Well, just remember that in the year 2000 thousands of voters were either disenfranchised, had their ballots lost or were disqualified.
In 2004, John F(uck) Kerry conceded before all the votes were counted (making those remaining ballots useless).
Then, ask yourself, will you REALLY make a difference to either party or the outcome?

Am I the only one on Earth who feels that "Karaoke" should have won a Hugo for best science fiction film in it's year (first broadcast on BBC I 28 April- 19 May, 1996) instead of "Dramatic Presentation: "Severed Dreams" (Babylon 5)?

so, i was watching the singing detective today and i had a question. for those of you that may reside in the UK; where exactly is it that philip is growing up and is the dialect they speak still in use today? the 'thee's' and 'thous' and 'ben't' and whatnot?
just wondering.

9:03 am - Potter = immortal genius

ramziabed
I have to share that Mr. Potter is a huge inspiration to me, and that the first time I saw "Dreamchild" (which was my introduction to Dennis' work... I think it was about 1986 or '87 when I first saw the movie), I was enthralled... Now, although it's a bit of a sidenote, but that film is extremely underrated and Ian Holm is just incredible in general (he's also amazing in "Brazil", "Naked Lunch", "The Sweet Hereafter", not to mention in tons of other films... his Bilbo Baggins is perfecto)... Anyhow, a beautiful film, and although Henson's puppets in "Dreamchild" are mind-blowing and exceptionally creepy, it's the script that was incredible....

That being said, I've been hooked on D.P. ever since... I have a lot of his stuff either in boxed sets or other (both vhs and dvd)... "The Singing Detective" is a landmark, and a total must-see for all people of the world... but "Lipstick On Your Collar" and "Cold Lazarus" are amaaaaaaazing too... I even enjoyed the "lite" version of "The Singing Detective" (which is very different and watered-down, but still neat)... "Track 29" is one of my biggest faves though... Is it out on dvd yet?

But the one thing to dig out or find... one of the best things I've ever, ever seen... "BLACKEYES"... Incredible... saw it at the USA Film Festival back in 1990 or so... Oh my god, the narrative structure!!! The disturbing situations... the sexiness... the secrets... the abusive childhood memories... the whole elektra complex... the objectification of women... the noir context, and the psychosexual subtext... You can still find the book... pick it up... "BLACKEYES" is amazing... I still have yet to read "Ticket To Ride"... and I need to see "Secret Friends"... but as for the other ones I mentioned, esp. "BLACKEYES", "The Singing Detective" (BBC Version, esp.), "Track 29", "Lipstick On Your Collar", "Dreamchild", "Cold Lazarus", "Pennies From Heaven" (both versions)... but wow, "BLACKEYES"... is...

THE BEST

Had to share...

Best,

Ramzi

Wow. I can't believe there's a Dennis Potter community! *falls over*
I've only seen three series of his (Pennies from Heaven, The Singing Detective, and Lipstick on your Collar), but the three that I saw are quite excellent. I'm glad that some of them have been/are being released on DVD, although it's a reaallly slow process. Anyway, this post has absolutely no use at all; I was just excited to see that other people had even heard of Dennis Potter. It doesn't seem to happen too often. Have a nice day!

welcome to the dennis potter community. hopefully, you'll all enjoy it and become active in it.
a large portion of the reason i created this community was because i really want some of dennis potter's serials on DVD, but they are not available in the US even on VHS (alot were released only on PAL). i've seen people selling PAL to DVD transfers on ebay, but i really would not like to pay $50 for some DVD-Rs. if anyone has anything, please let me know! i'm looking specifically for KARAOKE and COLD LAZARUS.
thanks and enjoy the community!
